Neuro Reson
AvailableBrainwave entrainment · An Android app for focus and relaxation
When earphones play sounds of different frequencies in the left and right ears, the listener perceives a rhythm equal to the difference between the two frequencies. This phenomenon is called binaural beats. Neuro Reson was built to check whether the effect is actually perceptible. Its features are deliberately limited so that the only actions are choosing a preset and pressing play.

Background
Many apps already use binaural beats, but most offer dozens of presets and mix in prompts to pay, which makes it hard to answer the question "does this sound work for me?" Answering it requires fewer variables. The app therefore limits the presets to six and does not hide which frequency difference each one uses.
Presets
The left ear is fixed at 400 Hz and only the right ear's frequency changes. The difference between the two values is the rhythm the listener perceives. The 400 Hz base falls within the 400 to 500 Hz range in which binaural beats are reported to be most distinct.
| Preset | Left · Right | Difference | Intended use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deep Sleep | 400 / 403 | 3 Hz | Falling asleep, or background sound during sleep |
| Deep Rest | 400 / 406 | 6 Hz | Preparing for sleep, meditation, full relaxation |
| Calm Alertness | 400 / 408 | 8 Hz | Before reading or light work |
| Calm Focus | 400 / 410 | 10 Hz | Writing or studying |
| Clear Mind | 400 / 418 | 18 Hz | Light alertness before meetings or study |
| Deep Immersion | 400 / 440 | 40 Hz | Short, intensive work and problem solving |
The timer can be set to unlimited, 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes, or to any value from 1 to 1440 minutes. The sound fades out during the last 10 seconds. Playback continues when the screen is off or another app is in use, and pauses automatically when the earphones are unplugged or another app plays sound.

Installation
The app is not distributed through the Play Store, so Android blocks its installation by default. The block needs to be lifted only once.
- 1 On the Android device, tap Download APK above. If the browser warns that the file may harm the device, choose to continue.
- 2 Open the downloaded file. If a screen asks for permission to install apps from unknown sources, allow it for the browser being used.
- 3 If Play Protect reports an app from an unknown developer, choose Install anyway. The notice appears because the app is not listed in a store.
- 4 After installation, put on earphones and launch the app. The app works only when the left and right sounds differ, so playing it through speakers has no effect.
To verify the downloaded file, run shasum -a 256 neuro-reson-0.1.1.apk
in a terminal and compare the output with the SHA-256 value above.
Notes
- • This is not a medical device. It is not intended to diagnose or treat any disease, and no effect is guaranteed.
- • Start with the volume low. Avoid listening at high volume for long periods.
- • Stop using the app immediately if you feel any discomfort.
- • The app collects no data and sends nothing over the network. No analytics tools are included.
- • The install screen may also list permissions such as storage and screen overlay. The app development framework adds them by default, and the app does not actually use them.
